First case of swine flu in China!

A Chinese student named ‘Bao’ has the questionable honor of being the first confirmed case of swine flu in mainland China. He developed symptoms during a flight from Beijing to Chengdu after having returned from the U.S. last Friday and is currently in quarantine. No need to panic though! The genetic blueprint of the new H1N1 virus is good news according to Anne Schuchat, interim deputy director for science and public health of the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. This version of the flu apparently hasn’t exchanged any material with other viruses (yet), making it much less lethal than the 1918 strain for example. It’s all good indeed. Only 4,379 people infected in 29 countries so far, 50 dead and counting.. first one to guess when we hit 100 wins a trip to Mexico!
