Beat me, silly goose
The Dark Side does not discriminate on the basis of gender, age, skin color, sexual orientation or amount of pubic hair. That is why, even though it took place a few days ago, we would like to bring to your attention the peaceful demonstration or die-in on May 19th by gays and lesbians in Hong Kong. Organized by a coalition of groups including Women Coalition of HKSAR, Rainbow of Hong Kong and Amnesty International Hong Kong Section, protesters called for new laws prohibiting discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation.
This rally, which was part of the city’s International Day Against Homophobia (or.. hang on to your seats.. IDAHO), was organized in particular to bring attention to a gross injustice this group has had to endure. Under the Domestic Violence Ordinance of Hong Kong law, a domestic violence case is strictly determined to be between a man and woman. You see where this is headed of course: the law doesn’t allow gays to beat each other and call it “domestic abuse.” Just assault with intent to harm, which represents harsher punishment. No fair!
We strongly believe that the law should treat gays/lesbians beating the crap out of each other in a domestic setting in the same way as men abusing their women, or the other way around (the latter perhaps being more relevant in this city).
*The Dark Side does not condone the beating of significant others, and nor will we ever. Passive means of resolution; ie. silent treatment, water drip torture, finger in warm water application or ‘Honey, I’m out with the boys in Wan Chai conduct’ are at all times deemed superior.
