SCMP loves sacks
Have you ever noticed how the South China Morning Post tends to overuse the word “sacked”? In the past few days alone, it was used a number of times as you can see here, here, here and here. I mean, I don’t mind the word, but sometimes I need a couple cups of Joe before thinking about sacks. Perhaps the writers had a seminar led by a “native-speaker” who used the word and they all decided it was a cool English slang term that they should use… all the time? So here are a few suggestions from the Dark Side Thesaurus: fired, discharged, dismissed, let go, axed, booted, canned, gave the bum’s rush, pink slipped, laid off, terminated! And if the folks over at SCMP choose to continue sacking, we’ll all sit back, read, and snicker just a little.
At least I will.
