Locals deny gweilos the right to get trashed
Today the Standard reports about a new bar on Bonham Road which cannot open due to heavy objections of locals. The ‘Blue Goose’ by Igor’s Group would be the first bar in the area, instilling fear in local residents that their street may soon become a new Lan Kwai Fong or SoHo (eeek!). A liquor license was already successfully blocked in June, but now the goal has become to simply eradicate the place.
Complaints are mainly related to drunk people on the streets and noise pollution. Harry Lam Bing-kwong, chairman of the Incorporated Owners of Kam Shing Mansion (a building near the site of the bar) comments: “Even without a pub we see many drunk people on the street. I cannot imagine how the residents, and especially children and old people, would react should there be a pub in the area.” Another resident, Pen Chan, comments: “I’m always scared when I see drunkards next to the building.”
Hang on a second… So these ‘drunkards’ (read: gweilos) are already there on Bonham Road, even though the only bar in the area is still closed? Apart from the fact that Mid-Levels yuppies can usually afford taxis to make it home, you’d reckon Pen Chan would still prefer them being inside the pub instead of roaming the streets looking to mug elders and rape children. But Pen is hardly alone in her quest: more than 2.000 signatures have already been collected to avoid the Blue Goose from ever opening its doors. Grrrr.
Hear hear locals! You may have won this battle, but the war continues. We hear Zionist-like expansion plans have already been forged by Allan Zeman and co. to turn the entire island into one big immoral entertainment district, while forcing locals to seek residence on the Dark Side. This isn’t over yet…
