New Vietnamese delicacy: ‘Pho Pas’
The previous post invited readers of The Dark Side to submit the coordinates of interesting spots and locations in Hong Kong. We want to thank all who shared their hangouts with us, but are especially grateful for the following story. Ironically, it is actually about a Vietnamese restaurant, on Bonham Road to be exact. What’s up with that street nowadays? But moving on..
Recently, one of our (no doubt hot) female readers dipped a spoon into her beefy soup at home after picking up takeaway from her favorite Vietnamese restaurant. In a split second something caught her eye. She raised the spoon towards her lips and wondered what exotic spice she had just discovered. Turned out it was a maggot.
We know what you’re thinking.. we are in Hongkers right, land of *cough* stellar health regulations in restaurants. So the odd maggot, fly, or cockroach, is to be expected every now and again. Quite true. Yet, when this girl’s friend starting fishing around in her soup at the same time, she found another maggot three times the size of the first little critter. Score: two soups, two maggots and one restaurant that should be inspected. Appalled and disgusted, they called the place, which apologized profusely and offered to give them a new meal, since clearly a third maggot-infused meal is all you want after such an experience. Their money was refunded, yet their appetite for Vietnamese lost forever.
The name of the place? Cadogan Pho. To be avoided forever. The Dark Side at your service.
