We all have our prejudices and hold our beliefs in stereotypes. This is what makes us human and sometimes angry persons. Funnily enough, when you gather a bunch of Westerners together in Hong Kong, we all meld into a giant mosh of bigotry: “If you hate the French, stand up” (if you don’t know this phrase, you obviously need to purchase Rugby 7’s tickets, grow a pair and get piss drunk while not hanging with French people).

A person claiming that violence in Hong Kong is just verbal phrases slung at each other is dead wrong. Especially when it is motivated by racism and prejudice. Today, a man ironically named Yu Hang was sent to a psychiatric center indefinitely for his apparent threat to foreigners in Hong Kong. That’s right- not to everyone or anyone but just gweilos.

This is not a random occurrence for Hang-man, who has been tried before for attempting to steal a Frenchman’s designer bag (of course) by means of a hammer to the head. This Frenchman was resilient enough to say no, so Hang-man ran away. In this case the question is, who is the real coward? Man carrying US$ 1,900.00 designer bag and hit on the head with a hammer? Or man with the hammer? Yu Hang does have a sense of humor though, as he previously attacked a German woman with a leather belt. Seemingly he knows that our European women are tough to break and stepped it up a notch.

But why the hatred and motivated hostility towards Westerners? Because he was fired by one, once… a long time ago. Poor chap. And what a original poor excuse to smack a Frenchman.
