Sino-U.S. saga continues: Avatar banned

It looks like James Cameron’s massive blockbuster Smurfahontas Avatar has struck enough of a chord with our Northern brethren to warrant being “harmonized” by the China Film Group.* It seems people are identifying with the rampant corporatism, rape of natural resources and predatory property practices depicted in the (very long) sci-fi movie loosely based on every story ever told.

The film is to be pulled from all 2D screens, but curiously left to run at 3D cinemas. Perhaps it’s because China sees value in having those that do manage to watch it develop feelings of nausea and general unease. We can only speculate. One thing we do know for sure is that is has absolutely nothing to do with China flexing its buying-power muscles versus the U.S. in light of last week’s incident with Google. Luckily there have not been any military disputes between these two nuclear superpowers in 2010 yet. Oh.
