CNNGO pwned by The Dark Side

Ever since we pointed out that CNN both recommends and condemns eating shark’s fin soup, the CNNGO article in question has received an impressive 25 (negative) comments. Interestingly, the paragraph that recommends that fine shark’s fin soup dish at restaurant Tim Fat in Macau now all of a sudden has a different intro, as this particular sentence was added:

“There is no denying the adverse impact the hunt for shark’s fin has on the ecosystem.”

In addition, a special note was added after the paragraph:

“Editor’s Note: A number of respondents have emailed and complained that our inclusion of restaurants that serve shark’s fin soup is very questionable, especially in light of CNN’s own reporting on the ecological impact associated with shark’s fin soup. We feel it is important to direct users to CNN’s Planet in Peril report on shark’s fin soup and also to the Hong Kong Shark Foundation for more information on the topic. We urge anyone contemplating consuming the dish to look at these and other resources. CNNGo will bear our user feedback and information in mind regarding any future posts about shark’s fin soup.”

Bravo CNN! What’s slightly odd however is that despite the negative nature of the comments, all of them still have a “thumbs up” image left of them. We’ll just assume it’s a *cough* technical impossibility to change thumb direction. The Dark Side at your service.

P.S. Yoo hoo Kristie, still not interested in our vacancy??

Shark fin soup is erroneously considered an aphrodisiac and good for your health. Ironically, due to the incredibly high levels of mercury, it causes sterility in men and is dangerous for pregnant women as well as children.

    Damn Chinese and their traditions.

talk about overreaction. zoe li did a macau guide and listed what people that like to go to macau do. granted it wasn't too PC of her to include shark fin, but all those people getting huffy are being tools. especially that guy alex hofford who couldnt stop pimping his website ont he comments.

meanwhile, i think you guys are far too happy about this supposed “contradiction” you've “uncovered”. CNN is a huge fucking company–the planet in peril piece was written two years ago. that's like if i find an employee at Nike saying they want to focus on basketball shoes only and then dig up some quote from another guy three years before sayingt hey want to focus on baseball.
